Album Cover: Album Format Research

There are many formats that ancillary products could come in for a promotional package, for my ancillary product i have decided to either create a  Jewel CD case with an actual CD (Compact Disc) or a Digipak. But first research must be conducted into these products.

What is a CD?

- A CD (also known as Compact Disc) is an optical disc used to store digital data. It was originally developed to store and playback sound recordings exclusively, but the format was later adapted for storage of data (CD-ROM).

What is a Jewel CD case?

-  A jewel CD case is the original compact disc case that has been used since the compact disc was first released in 1982. It is a three-piece plastic case which usually contains a compact disc along with the liner notes and a back card. Two opposing transparent halves are hinged together to form the casing, the back half holding a media tray that grips the disc by its hole.

What is a Digipak?

-  Digipaks were among the first alternatives to jewel cases to be used by major record companies, digipaks typically consist of a gatefold (book-style) paperboard or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside. Digipak-style packaging is often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums and the tall DVD Digipak (DVDigipak) is used as a premium package for DVDs and DVD sets.

This is a Digipak created by Muse for the album 'The Resistance'
